I Started off as Jordan. Then scrapped that game and played as McLaren.
I had Coulthard and Hakkinen on my first season, and after developing a few parts of my own, i decided it was better to buy other parts as they work well better and lighter than what I could build. PLUS THEY DIDN'T TAKE FOREVER!
So after a dismal start to the season, I started getting some good results. I won in Hungary and won in Japan (both Hakkinen).
I finished 4th in constructors, with Hakkinen finishing 5th and Couthard 7th in Drivers championship.
I forgot to renew contracts and realised that Hakkinen had signed for Williams and Coulthard for Tyrrell. So there i was on the search for new drivers. I looked around and signed Mansell (just cos he's a legend), and then I realised that Frentzen wasn't signed for the next season (I think he was destined for Williams as most teams had 2 drivers sorted and they hadn't).
So along came 1997, and I signed less sponsors (not my fault!) and had less money than I needed. But I had cheaper drivers and better parts (albeit not mine).
Along came Melbourne and I qualified 9th and 11th with Frentzen and Mansell respectively. Finished 6th and a DNF for Mansell. Mansell had done ok, but his fuel went down more than Frentzen's for some reason so I filled his fuel right up for the next race. Yet he still ran out and Frentzen too had a DNF (they qualified 8th for Frentzen and 14th for Mansell).
1pt out of 2 races!!! I made a descision to sack the drivers if they kept doing bad. But mansell did a shocker! he qualified on Pole for Argentina!!! Frentzen was in 5th. I had recently brought a new light rear cover, maybe that was it!! Mansell finished 3rd and Frentzen 6th. THIS WAS BETTER! 6pts overall!!! YAY!
But it all went wrong. Frentzen was quick qualifying, the next 3 races he qualified 2nd, 4th and 3rd. Mansell however was doing 9th, 12th and 9th again. Race wise Frentzen had 2 DNF's but one 2nd place. Mansell had 3 bad results. 8th, 9th and again a 9th.
Drastic action was needed. I SACKED MANSELL. I just couldn't take it. 12pts was a joke after 6 races. I also decided to sign Frentzen as my #1 Driver for 1998. I felt potential in him. I replaced Mansell with Karl Wendlinger. He seemed the only best option.
Next race he qualified 7th and finished 6th. I was happy with him. Frentezen was dissapointing finishing 10th from starting 11th. The next two races saw McLaren come of age!! Wendlinger Qualified 2nd, Frentzen qualified 3rd! Frentzen finished 1st, Wendlinger finished 4th!
I WAS OVER THE MOON!
Next race we qualified 1st and 2nd, with frentzen on Pole. unfortunately I messed up with pit strategy and realised I forgot to put enough fuel in for him, so his first stop he was running fully weighed down. He finished a respectable 8th considering what I did to him! Wendlinger finished 2nd!!!!!
I was hoping Wendlinger had more to show. I was considering getting Alesi (who was leading the championship) for next season. 9th race of the season and Frentzen dominated!! Pole and 2nd in the race. Alesi first. Wendlinger had a DNF after qualifying 5th. I tried to sign Alesi but he was angry with being offered 2nd driver status (as I upped his wage by 3 million!!)
The next few races were ok. Frentzen was doing poor though. He had 2 DNF's but 2 poles. the other race he qualified 2nd and finished 4th. Wendlinger was awesome! Considering how cheap he was too, he qualified 4th, 2nd and 8th and finished 3rd, 4th and 11th respectively.
The last couple of races saw me heartbroken.
I went to retain Wendlingers services for next year, but Sauber had pounced!!! I was well angry (guess it was then getting me back for stealing Frentzen!!) I was forced to look around. I tried to sign Coulthard back but he rejected, then Hill. He rejected. I left it for one race... BAD MISTAKE.
Wendlinger did poor. Qualified 11th and had a DNF. Frentzen was ruling Pole and 1st!!!
Anyway, back to silly season. I went to look for a driver... ALL HAD BEEN SIGNED!!! - I even tried to get Mansell back. DIDN'T HAPPEN! (he retired anyway next season). But I signed instead Schiatarella!! I was angry but hoped he'd be another wendlinger!
The rest of the season was crap qualifying and DNF's. such a ppr end to the season!
The season finished with Frenzten 4th in the Drivers championship and wendlinger 8th. and us 4th in the Constructors again!
I tested hard for the 98 season. I've only done 1 race and it's shown that testing paid off.
I signed the Mercedes Engline again, at cost to me but still I needed power! Sponsorship was ok, and i had some cash from last season. So I went to australia with high hopes and came back happy!
Frentzen qaulified 5th and Schiatarella qualified 7th. Frentzen was on a 2 stop, current Champion only pitted once. it was clsoe but Frenzten was leading. Until he dropped to 3rd. Schumacher was first Alesi 2nd. Schiatarella was 4th!!! Alesi crashed out and Frentzen continued to slip. Schiatarella was in 2nd but due his second stop. He stopped and came out in 5th. When the pit stops were over, Schumacher had pitted again, leaving Frentzen in first! Schiatarella was up to 4th. it stayed like that! Such a great race. I never expected my #2 driver to be so good. Frentzen was out standing, but I just couldn't understand his midrace dip, but still. onto the next race I go!
Sorry for the long post! But i can't wait to get back on it! I'm still waiting to get back onto F1 Man Pro (DosBox will not run for some reason! but I'm loving F1 Man 96!
